257. Statements concerning passengers.- (1) The master of an unberthed passenger ship departing or proceeding on a voyage from a port or place in India to a port or place outside India shall sign a statement in duplicate, specifying the number and the respective sexes of all the unberthed passengers, and the number of the crew, and shall deliver both copies to the certifying officer,.who shall thereupon,.after having first satisfied himself that the entries are correct, countersign and return to the master one copy of the statement.

(2) In either of the following cases, namely:-

(a) if taster the ship has departed or proceeded on such a voyage any additional unberthed passengers are taken on board at a port or place within India appointed under this Part for the embarkation of unberthed passengers; or

(b) if the ship upon her voyage touches are arrives at any such port or place, having previously received on board additional unberthed passengers at any port or place outside India;

the master shall obtain a fresh certificate to the effect of certificate B format the certifying officer at the port or place, and shall make an additional statement specifying the number and the respective sexes of all the additional passengers.
