269. Certain pilgrim ships to carry medical officers and attendants.- (1) Every pilgrim ship carrying pilgrims and crew not exceeding one thousand in number shall have on board a medical officer possessing such qualifications as may be prescribed, and, if the number of pilgrims and crew carried exceeds one thousand, a second medical officer similarly qualified and also in all cases such medical attendants as may be prescribed.

(2) A medical officer of every pilgrim ship shall perform such duties and functions, keeps such diaries and submit such reports or other returns, as may be prescribed.

(3) No medical officer or attendant on a pilgrim ship shall charge any pilgrim on such ship for his services.
