16. Penalty for secreting, destroying or altering register.- Any person secreting, destroying, or dishonestly or fraudulently altering the said register in any part thereof shall be punished with imprisonment of either description as defined in the Indian Penal Code for a term which may extend to two years or if he be a Registrar for a term which may extend to five years and shall also be liable to fine which may extend to five hundred rupees.
